Concrete Calculation Formulas

Estimating concrete accurately is critical to avoid project delays or wasting materials. A standard "pre-mix" bag of concrete usually yields about 0.6 cubic feet.

Volume Formulas

- Rectangular (Slab): L × W × Thickness
- Circular (Column): π × r² × Height
- Conversion: 1 Cubic Yard = 27 Cubic Feet

Common Slab Thicknesses

  • Sidewalks/Walkways: 4 inches
  • Patios: 4 inches
  • Driveways: 4 - 6 inches (depending on vehicle weight)
  • Garage Floors: 6 inches

Tips for Success

  1. Add Waste: Always add 5-10% extra for spillage and subgrade variation.
  2. Subgrade: Ensure your gravel or dirt base is well-compacted before pouring.
  3. Curing: Keep concrete moist for several days after pouring for maximum strength.
